A public reception will be held on Friday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate and honor those persons who have made it possible for the Paducah Renaissance Alliance to be awarded a 2010 Great American Main Street Award®. The reception will be held at the downtown gazebo, located at the corner of 2nd and Broadway Streets. Ten prominent community leaders will be honored.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation presented the award on May 4 at the National Main Streets Conference, in Oklahoma City, OK. PRA was selected from a nationwide pool of applicants, based on the accomplishments made in revitalizing the historic downtown and the LowerTown Arts District, since Paducah’s Main Street program was established in 1989.
The organization was honored based on their successful demonstration of the following:
- Developing active partnerships with private and public sector individuals and businesses.
- Achieving broad-based community support for the revitalization effort
- Quality of achievements over time
- Implanting innovative solutions to significant problems
- Commitment to historic preservation
- Evolving track record of successful commercial district revitalization
- Economic impact of the revitalization program; and
- Successful small business development.
Winners were selected by a national jury composed of former award winners, community development professionals, government representatives and foundations, and journalists actively working in the historic preservation and economic development fields.
