William F. Paxton, III was elected to the City Commission for the City of Paducah in November 1998. He took office on January 1, 1999. He was elected Mayor November 2000 and took office on January 1, 2001.

He retired from Citizens Bank and Trust Company/Mercantile Bank and Trust Company/Firstar after 30 years of service on December 31, 1999. He was Senior Vice President and Manager of the Private Banking Department.

His education includes Murray State University, Kentucky School of Banking and Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking. Community involvement includes being past President of the Four Rivers Boy Scout Council, past President of the Rotary Club of Paducah, and past President of the Market House Museum.

William Paxton is married to Lucy Weil Paxton. They have two children Christina Kate Cassetty and husband Todd and William F. Paxton, IV. The family attends Grace Episcopal Church.
