Citizen's Police Academy

The Paducah Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) focuses on building a strong partnership between the police department and the community.  Since its inception, more than 250 citizens in the community have graduated from the academy.  It is taught once a year on Thursday nights over 11 consecutive weeks.  The CPA  is free to anyone 18 years of age and older who lives in the community.  Upon graduation, participants are encouraged to join the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association which continues to grow with each graduating class.

Some of the topics covered during the 11 week class are criminal investigation, crime scene processing, evidence, firearms, patrol tactics, and the department's recruitment and selection process.  Alumni of the Citizen's Police Academy help to facilitate the CPA classes and promote the Community Oriented Policing (C.O.P.) initiative.  The CPA Alumni and the Volunteers in Police Service (V.I.P.S.) assist with crowd control and public safety at events such as Downtown After Dinner and the BBQ on the River Festival.  This assistance through volunteerism results in police officers being able to focus on more important tasks in the community.
