Paducah is the only incorporated community in McCracken County.  Paducah is located along the Ohio River below the mouth of the Tennessee River.  McCracken County covers an area of approximately 249 square miles.  Paducah is situated half way between St. Louis, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee along Interstate-24.

Population

Demographic Profile

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2010 46.0% of the population of Paducah is comprised of males and 54.0% is comprised of females.  The median age in Paducah is 41.4 years of age.  

The racial composition of Paducah as reported in the 2010 U.S. Census is as follows:  71.0% White and 23.7% African-American with the remaining percentages being comprised with persons who reported their races as either American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, Other race reported, two or more Races, or Hispanic or Latino.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2010 there were 11.462 households with the majority of households in Paducah one- (41.5%) or two-person (30.9%) households.  The average household size in Paducah is 2.09 persons per household.  

Income and Poverty Level

According to the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey for 2006-2010, the median household income in Paducah was $29,275.  For McCracken County, the median household income was $41,630.  For the State of Kentucky, the median household income was $41,576.

Educational Attainment

According to the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey for 2006-2010, 81.7% of the population 25 years of age and older in Paducah has obtained a high school degree (or equivalent).  An additional 18.6% has earned a Bachelor's degree or higher.
