Drugs and Vice Enforcement

The Drugs And Vice Enforcement Unit is responsible for the enforcement of laws relating to the abuse and diversion of prescription drugs.  The goals of the unit when dealing with prescription fraud are to:

  1. Educate and inform the public of this abuse
  2. Inform medical professionals of the abusers
  3. Pro-actively arrest individuals who "doctor shop" and commit prescription fraud and scams
  4. Pro-actively investigate medical professionals who over-prescribe controlled substances

It is the unit's objective to educate the public to the various scams, prescription fraud, and wide-range abuse.  The detectives assigned to investigate these offensesare available to train medical professionals in hospitals, doctors' offices, medical centers, and other related sites.

Cocaine

Cocaine comes in two forms, powder or "crack".  Powder cocaine is usually white and can be injected or snorted.  "Crack", which is smoked, is usually a light brown or beige rock with the same consistency as soap or macadamia nuts.  Both come packaged in the corners of baggies, small vials, or small ziplock- type baggies.

Marijuana

Marijuana continues to be the most abused illegal drug in the United States. Marijuana is produced by drying the leaves and buds of the marijuana plant and then smoking them in either cigarette or pipe form.  Marijuana has been found to impair judgment and often contributes to auto accidents.  During the growing season (summer) in Western Kentucky, marijuana is planted in remote fields or stands of trees.  These plots are often booby-trapped by the growers.

Meth Labs

We would like the community to be aware of what is found in a meth lab and the danger meth labs pose.  Some of the ingredients are cold tablets, lired phosphorus, anhydrous ammonia, and camera batteries.  When these items

are combined in a certain manner, they are potentially very toxic and dangerous.  If you see what you think is a lab or hear of someone cooking meth, call the local authorities.

Remember, some drugs are not only dangerous, they are illegal.  If you have plans for the future, even small incidents of drug use or experimentation could ruin these plans.  Be smart and stay clean!
