 Community Garden

In March 2010, the first-ever City of Paducah Community Garden opened for renters at North 14th Street and Madison.  The fenced area has water and 20 plots for rent for $20 per plot.  Even though the summer was hot and dry, some beautiful flowers and vegetables were still flourishing when these pictures were taken in late August. 

 
 Executive Inn Liquidation

The liquidation of the Executive Inn began at 10:00 a.m. on August 19, 2010.  The liquidation will last 45 days.  The demolition process will begin immediately after the liquidation.  These are photos from the first couple of hours of the liquidation.  For details about the liquidation, click News Release.

 
 Housing Authority of Paducah Groundbreaking for Senior Housing

A groundbreaking ceremony was held August 10, 2010 for the Housing Authority's H.C. Mathis Housing Development for Senior Citizens.  The 30 units will be built on H.C. Mathis Drive across from the Paducah-McCracken County Senior Citizens Center. 

 
 Noble Park Parking Lot Project

A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 10, 2010 for the Noble Park Parking Lot Project.  This project involves correcting drainage problems and rebuilding the parking lot next to the Noble Park poolhouse.  Also the road in front of the amphitheater will be moved away from the amphitheater to create a wider safety barrier between the vehicles and the people enjoying amphitheater entertainment.  This is nearly a half million dollar project funded by the Investment Fund.  During the groundbreaking Dortha Page received a Duchess of Paducah award for her years of working to make Noble Park more beautiful. 

 
 Great American Main Street Award Celebration

A celebration was held May 7, 2010 at the downtown Paducah gazebo to honor more than a dozen people who have worked over the past 10 or so years to improve the downtown area of Paducah.  On May 4, Paducah Renaissance Alliance was awarded the Great American Main Street Award through the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  --News Release--    --5 Minute Video of Downtown/LowerTown--

 
 Paducah Water Treatment Plant Dedication

On May 7, 2010 a dedication ceremony was held at the Paducah Water Treatment Plant on North 8th Street.  The plant is now named the W.J. Brockenborough Water Plant in honor of Jim Brockenborough who served on the Commissioners of Waterworks board for nearly 30 years.  He was chair of the board from 1987 to 2009.  Visit Paducah Water for more information about the plant.  

 
 Ohio River Above Flood Stage

The Ohio River Valley and points to the south starting receiving heavy rain and thunderstorms on April 30, 2010.  The region saw storms and rain off and on for three days.  The National Weather Service in Paducah reported a storm total of 3.63 inches; however, many areas to the south including Nashville, Tennessee received a foot or more of rain causing the rivers to rise.  These pictures were taken of the Paducah riverfront on May 5, 2010 when the Ohio River was nearing its crest.  It crested at 44.2 feet on May 6 (flood stage is 39.0 feet).

 
 Pavilion Ribbon Cutting

On April 14, 2010 the City held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 38,000 square foot dome pavilion located downtown near the Julian Carroll Convention Center.  The first use of the facility is to house vendors for the 2010 AQS Quilt Show, April 21-24.  At the ribbon cutting, contractors Arizon Structures and M.P. Lawson were recognized in addition to Architect, Paul King of Peck, Flannery, Gream, Warren, Inc.

 
 New Ladder Truck

On March 23, 2010 the public had a chance to get an up close look at the Paducah Fire Department's new ladder truck.  It has a 105 foot ladder and will be stationed at Station 3 on Friedman Lane.     --News Release--

 
 2010 Census Community Rally

On March 3, 2010 the 2010 Census Community Rally and Portrait of America Road Tour was held at the McCracken County Library.  The event was organized by the McCracken County Complete Count Committee.  Events including the reading of a census proclamation, singing, census goodie bag giveaways, cheers, and poster contest winners.  Click 2010 Census for more information.

 
 2009 City Employee Christmas Luncheon

On December 16, City of Paducah employees enjoyed some time together eating a catered Christmas dinner in the atrium of City Hall.  A big thank you goes out to the Paducah Ambassadors who decorated the tables and served the food.  The McNabb Honors Choir shared their beautiful voices with the employees.

 
 Tilghman Victory Parade

Parade held on December 9, 2009 in downtown Paducah.  Parade is to celebrate the Paducah Tilghman football team who won the Class 3A State title.  --News Release--

 
 2009 Holiday Parade and LowerTown Lights

Parade held on Saturday, December 5 in downtown Paducah.  Parade starts at 14th and Broadway and disbands at 2nd.  Click Holiday Parade Video to watch the hour-long parade.

 
 Assistant Fire Chief Wardelle Harvey's Retirement Reception

Reception held November 30, 2009 in atrium of City Hall.  Assistant Chief Harvey has served the City of Paducah for 32 years starting as a fire fighter and working his way up to the position of Assistant Fire Chief.  He has been Assistant Chief for nearly 11 years.

 
 2009 Veterans Day Parade

Parade held November 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.  Parade starts at 2nd Street and travels down Broadway until 17th Street.  Click News Release for details.

 
 2009 Neighborhood Walks with Commission

 2009 Kentucky Senior Games Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony for the 2009 Kentucky Senior Games was held at the Robert Cherry Civic Center on September 30, 2009.  Click News Release for details.

 
 Highway Safety Grant Presentation

Pictures are from the check presentation ceremony on September 24, 2009 held in the lobby at Western Baptist Hospital.  The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety presented the Paducah Police Department with a $25,000 check.  Click News Release for details.

 
 2009 Bikes on Broadway

 2009 Touch a Truck

One of the most popular events organized by the Parks Services Department is Touch a Truck.  Kids have the opportunity to see, touch, and get into the driver's seat of many types of vehicles.  Pictures are from the September 10, 2009 event.

 
 2009 Summer Festival Kickball

On July 25, 2009 for the first time the Summer Festival was held on the lawn of the Carson Center and featured a kickball tournament.  Photos are of the Paducah Fire Department team.

 
 Oak Grove Cemetery Phase I Restoration

 Ronald McDonald House Charities Swimming Grant

On July 23, 2009, Ronald McDonald House Charities presented the Parks Services Department with a $2586 grant to be used to offer swimming lessons to children 6-12 years old.  Click News Release for details.

 
 Coleman Park Dedication

On May 13, 2009, Blackburn Park was renamed Robert Coleman Park in honor of former Commissioner Robert Coleman's more than thirty years of public service.

 
 2009 Quilt Show and Convention Center Renovations

 Accessible Playground Ribbon Cutting

Ribbon cutting held November 7, 2008 for the accessible playground at Noble Park.  Playground is a Boundless certified facility located on the east side of Noble Park Lake.

 
 Fountain Avenue Hometour and Festival

On October 2, 2008 a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for first new home built in Fountain Avenue Neighborhood in more than 30 years.  After the ceremony there was a festival and hometour.
