2011-2012 Kentucky League of Cities Officers and Board Elected by Members
Paducah Mayor William Paxton - President
Lyndon Mayor Susan Barto - First Vice President
Midway Mayor Tom Bozarth – Second Vice President
LEXINGTON - Paducah Mayor William “Bill” Paxton III took office as the Kentucky League of Cities President on October 6. Lyndon Mayor Susan Barto was elected as First Vice President and Midway Mayor Tom Bozarth was elected as Second Vice President.
The officers will serve one-year terms. Each of them stepped into their current roles early when then KLC President and Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker was appointed Secretary of State in January.
“KLC is fortunate to have an engaged and diverse Board representing cities of all sizes across the commonwealth.” said Jon Steiner, KLC Executive Director/CEO.
“Our officers are have already proven their willingness to actively participate on behalf of the membership, and this commitment will continue as we approach the upcoming legislative session,” said Steiner.
KLC members elected officers, as well as its Executive Board and Board of Directors (which sets the organization’s legislative priorities), at its annual business meeting during the KLC Conference & Expo last week in Lexington.
“I am so pleased that through the hard work of the Board of Directors over the past two years, we have brought KLC back to where our membership can be proud,” said Paxton. “This has been achieved through the hiring of Jon Steiner as Executive Director/CEO and by increasing the organization’s transparency. Our membership can take pride in the fact that the attendance at this year’s conference was up 64 percent as compared to last year’s numbers.”
Mayors Paxton, Barto and Bozarth were instrumental in big changes at the League including the hiring of Executive Director/CEO Jon Steiner who started at the League on November 1, 2010. In the last year, KLC has streamlined operational processes and continued to increase transparency by posting all expenditures and financial audits, policies, budgets and meeting information online. KLC came in under budget during its last fiscal year and budgeted less for ongoing operational costs for 2011-2012 including lower salary costs, all while increasing services to members.
