Update (June 27, 2012): Due to the forecast of temperatures higher than 100 degrees, the Paducah Parks Services Department is canceling the track and field portion of the Paducah Summer Games scheduled for this weekend.
June 25, 2012: Paducah Parks Services will host the Paducah Summer Games on Friday and Saturday, June 29-30. Events include disc golf, track and field, and the cross river swim. Each event has a registration fee of $10. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for all of the events. The first 150 participants will receive a Paducah Summer Games t-shirt.
Track and field will be at Paducah Tilghman High School. It kicks off Friday evening with a 5K race on the track. Track and field events on Saturday include 80m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 100m dash, 1500m run, 300m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 800m run, 400m dash, 3000m run, and 200m dash. The annual Cross River Swim will be Saturday, June 30 at the Paducah riverfront. Swimmers are asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for final instructions with the swim beginning at 10 a.m. Swimmers will start on the Illinois side of the Ohio River and attempt to swim to the foot of Broadway in Paducah. Each swimmer must provide documentation from a pool manager that they can swim 500 meters. Each swimmer must have a manned boat to accompany them on the swim.
The disc golf tournament will be Saturday, June 30 at Stuart Nelson Park. On-site registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the shelter near the tee to hole #1. This will be a two round event. Round one will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start with round two following. Participants will compete in one of two divisions for prizes.
