A special edition of Bikes on Broadway will be held Sunday, September 11. On the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Paducah Parks Services Department asks everyone to honor the victims of that tragic day by wearing red, white, and blue. Paducah Parks staff will be handing out American flags along the route, and the first 150 people who stop at the Parks table will get a free t-shirt honoring the occasion. The Paducah Police Department, Paducah Fire Department, and McCracken County Emergency Management will have response vehicles at the event and banners for the public to sign to say thank you to all the emergency personnel who worked during the 9/11 rescue and recovery efforts. The Parks Department also will have a banner to sign. The banners will be sent to first responders in New York.
Bikes on Broadway is a free event that closes Broadway between 4th and 17th Streets in Paducah to vehicular traffic. From 1:00 until 4:00 p.m., bring your bicycle, skates, skateboards, scooters, tricycles, strollers, running shoes, or walking shoes for a fun day of strolling and riding along Broadway. This is the fourth year for Bikes on Broadway.
With the help of crossing volunteers, traffic will be able to cross Broadway at 9th and 13th Streets. BikeWorld will set up a station at 17th Street and Broadway to provide mechanical help and assistance for participants. There will be water stations along the route. An additional Bikes on Broadway event is scheduled for October 9.
