H.C. Mathis Apartment Community
Ribbon Cutting and Open House on November 30 at 10:00 a.m.
PADUCAH, KY — The Housing Authority of Paducah invites everyone to the ribbon cutting and open house for the new H.C. Mathis Apartment Community in Paducah. The 28 new apartments are located at North 14th Street and Atkins Avenue which is across from the Paducah Parks Services facility. The event will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30. The public will be able to tour the new apartments.
Housing Authority of Paducah Executive Director Cal Ross says, “Since the groundbreaking nearly 18 months ago, I never thought we would reach this day and celebrate the grand opening of our newest development, H.C. Mathis.” Ross adds, “I am so pleased to have received the federal ARRA funding that made it possible for us to finally build 28 apartments for elderly, handicapped, and disabled people in Paducah.”
The facility has 20 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments. The facility has achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and the Energy Star certification. All of the apartments are non-smoking units and meet the accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development funded the construction of the H.C. Mathis Apartment Community through a $2,621,550 American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus grant and a $1,281,388 Replacement Housing grant. Ross says, “These taxpayer dollars were put to good use in this community in creating 23 jobs during construction. The Obama administration can take credit for these funds as a huge win for Paducah.”
Ross thanks the hard work by the architect, Sherman-Carter-Barnhart Architects, P.S.C., and the construction firm, CRG Residential. Ross also thanks the City of Paducah for providing the land and Paducah Bank for providing the construction loan. The groundbreaking for the nearly $4 million H.C. Mathis Apartment Community was held August 10, 2010.
The Housing Authority of Paducah has received 75 applications for the 28 apartments. The apartments are being assigned to qualified applicants through a lottery process. The remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list. The goal is for the residents to start moving into their new apartments by December.
