The Housing Authority of Paducah is hosting a lead safety class for contractors and individuals at its training center located at 2330 Ohio Street. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certified Renovator lead safety class will be held 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012. The fee for the class is $250 which is due no later than class date. The fee includes textbooks and class supplies.

This 8 hour EPA accredited course explains how to comply with EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule. Subjects covered include health effects, regulations, lead safe work practices, containment, cleaning, and record keeping as required by the EPA. After passing the end-of-course exam, students receive RRP Certificates allowing them to comply with the RRP Rule.
This training is required for contractors involved in any construction activity that has the potential to contact lead-based paint. Lead exposure can cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities to seizures and death. Young children are at the greatest risk because their nervous systems are still developing.
