If you ask preschool children to name things that they are thankful to have in their lives, you may hear answers such as candy and toys but also family and friends. On this episode of Tot School, the theme is giving thanks in addition to fun activities to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
Tot School: Thanksgiving can be seen on Government 11, the governmental access channel of the City of Paducah, and on Paducah-2. The episode also is online at www.paducahky.gov and the various social media outlets for the City of Paducah including Youtube and Facebook. Check the website for Government 11 program information, videos, news releases, and broadcast schedules.
Tot School teacher Kathy Reese and three youngsters start the episode with a fun rhyme about five little pilgrims. This gives the children the chance to learn about the first Thanksgiving and tell what they are thankful for in their lives. During craft time, the kids make a construction paper hat that looks like a turkey, and then they make placemats using construction paper leaves in all the fall colors. Of course, the episode ends with snack time with cupcakes decorated with candy to mimic the variety of colors found in corn kernels. All of the activities provide opportunities to teach children about the changing seasons and the Thanksgiving holiday.
