The forecast may not be a good one if you are hoping for a white Christmas. However, you can enjoy the first few days of winter by participating in some fun crafts that let you pretend there is snow on the ground. In this episode of Tot School, teacher Kathy Reese and three youngsters show you how to have fun indoors even if there isn’t snow. The Paducah Parks Services Department coordinates Tot School, a preschool program for 3 to 5 year olds. Tot School helps prepare children for kindergarten through developmentally stimulating activities that enhance a child's learning and growth.
Tot School: Winter Show can be seen on Government 11, the governmental access channel of the City of Paducah, and on Paducah-2. The episode also is online at www.paducahky.gov and the various social media outlets for the City of Paducah including Youtube and Facebook. Check the website for Government 11 program information, videos, news releases, and broadcast schedules.
Reese starts the episode with a fun story about a little girl losing her white mitten in the snow. Find out what happens to the mitten as several animals take comfort in its warmth. To continue the snowy theme, the kids use construction paper to make a window with window panes. Put sugar in a Ziploc bag and glue it between the pieces of construction paper. Turn the “window” upside down to make it appear to be snowing.
For the next craft, the kids don’t need paint brushes or sponges. Use a marshmallow to dab white paint on a piece of colored construction paper. Paint snowflakes and snowmen while pretending to paint with a snowball. The episode ends with a sweet snack. Roll doughnut holes in powdered sugar to make a sweet “snowball”.
