PADUCAH, KY — Everyone is invited to an open house at the Community Room at the Housing Authority of Paducah’s Anderson Court. The event is to celebrate the Kids Movin’ Up @ Anderson program which provides homework help for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. The open house will be Monday, August 15 at 3:15 p.m. at the Anderson Court Community Room located at 800 North 8th Street.
Volunteers, donors, and supporters will be recognized at the open house in addition to the students who attend regularly. Students who want to attend the program and volunteers who want to participate can register during the event.
Kids Movin’ Up @ Anderson is a collaborative program between the Neighbors of Anderson Court, Anderson Court Property Management, and Housing Authority Resident Services. In looking at the needs of the community, the three groups determined that the students would benefit from a minimum of 1 ½ to 2 hours of daily homework support. The Community Room is open Monday through Thursday 3:15 until 5:00 p.m. to provide homework help. The room is staffed with volunteers to provide the homework guidance. An average of 15 students takes advantage of the program each day.
A special thank you goes to a group of local Girl Scouts. This summer, the scouts painted the whole room, held a book drive, and cataloged and shelved books. The program now has its own library.
