Suspect: Arthur L. Reed, 26, of H.C. Mathis Drive, arrested on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and fleeing or evading police
A Paducah man was arrested this afternoon after fleeing from police and hiding in a garage.
Officers responded just after 4:30 p.m. today to an anonymous complaint of illegal drug activity in the 700 block of Oscar Cross Boulevard. As officers arrived, a man fled the area on foot. Officer Chris Bolton chased him to the 500 block of South 9th Street, where he saw the man run into the back yard of a home and heard a garage door closing.
A police K9 team came to the scene, and the dog indicated that someone was inside the garage. Officers found Arthur L. Reed hiding inside. The homeowner was contacted and came to the scene. She confirmed she knows Reed and that he had stayed at the home overnight. Inside the home, officers found a small bag containing crack cocaine near Reed’s clothing.
Officers tracked the path Reed took while fleeing from Bolton, and located a bag containing 18 grams of crack cocaine. Near where Reed was hiding in the garage, officers found $136 cash.
Reed was arrested on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and fleeing or evading police, and was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
