2nd Annual Kings of the Court Basketball Tournament
Fundraiser for Relay for Life on April 21
We have a bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all of these games are played inside and away from the shooting range,” laughs Paducah Police Detective Matt Smith. Detective Smith and the Paducah Police Department team in addition to the four other participating teams are getting ready for the 2nd Annual Kings of the Court Basketball Tournament which will be held Saturday, April 21 at the Paducah Tilghman High School gymnasium. All proceeds from the tickets, t-shirt sales, concessions, and sponsorships will benefit Relay for Life, the main fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. The goal is to raise at least $2000 from the tournament.
Malinda Elrod-Baltz, Police Department Investigative Assistant and event co-coordinator, says, “It is our honor to have this opportunity to raise funds for such a wonderful cause. We are so excited about how the event is growing this year and want to thank our community for its support. It is simply amazing!”
The games start at 11:00 a.m. with the final game starting at approximately 4:30 p.m. A travelling trophy and bragging rights are the grand prizes. Tickets are $5.00 per person for adults and $3.00 per person for children under ten years old.
This year the Paducah Fire Department is a new addition to the tournament that also includes teams from the Paducah Police Department, Electric 96.9, City of Paducah Parks/Public Works, and WPSD Local 6. The tournament also will include the Paducah Tilghman Step Team, an autograph session with members of the Murray State University Racers Basketball Team, and giveaways. Concessions have been expanded this year to include hotdogs, drinks, popcorn, and other snacks.
The City of Paducah’s Relay for Life Team is selling t-shirts for the tournament. The t-shirts are $10 each for sizes small up to XL and $15 each for sizes XXL and XXXL. The shirts are dark purple. Orders will be accepted by fax to Malinda Elrod-Baltz at the Police Department (270) 575-9635 or by phone at (270) 444-8553. The deadline to order and pay for the shirts is noon on Wednesday, April 4. Payment must be in cash or check.
