The City of Paducah has organized two softball teams for the Utilities United 2nd Annual Softball Tournament. The tournament was organized last year by local utility companies to raise money for the United Way. This year the tournament has expanded to ten teams including two teams from the City: Paducah Parks Department, Paducah Police Department, Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation, Paducah Power System, Paducah Water, NewWave Communications, Comcast Cable, Murtco, Paducah Bank, and Atmos Energy.
The tournament will be held Saturday, September 10 starting at 8:00 a.m. at the Reidland Farley Baseball/Softball Park located on Said Road just south of Reidland. The bracket placement for the teams was selected at random. At 8:00 a.m. Murtco will play Comcast and the Paducah Police Department will play the Paducah Parks Department team. Games will be held every hour until early evening when the winner is presented with a traveling trophy.
Everyone is invited to come out and watch at no charge. Proceeds from the concessions, homerun derby, and the dunking booth will be donated to the United Way. For the homerun derby, it will cost $5 for five swings. The winner will receive dinner for two at Outback Steakhouse® in Paducah. The dunking booth will be a popular attraction costing $1 per ball or 6 balls for $5.
Organizers want to thank all the sponsors including Bob’s Drive-In & Neil’s Catering, River Graphics, and the Reidland Farley Baseball/Softball Association.
