At the March 20, 2012 City Commission meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved a change in the Paducah Code of Ordinances (Sec. 18-91) regarding wiring methods. The change makes Paducah more consistent with other cities and counties in the State and conforms to the National Electric Code by allowing the use of listed metal clad (MC) cable within the city limits in all business buildings. Metal clad cable is a flexible protective armor for electrical conductors that allows for easier and faster bending. In most cases, metal clad cable is more economical and user-friendly than other methods.
The Paducah Inspection Department will host an informational session for anyone interested in learning about this wiring method including contractors, business owners, and electricians. The informational session will be Wednesday, April 11 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Robert Cherry Civic Center. A manufacturer’s representative will attend to demonstrate the latest devices and cables on the market related to metal clad cable. The City’s electrical inspectors also will attend to answer questions and provide guidance about the use within the City of Paducah. The informational session is free. No prior registration is required.
