West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) is the recipient of several awards from the National Conference for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR). One of the awards is for the City of Paducah television program Your City at Work. The episode Your City at Work: Barkley Regional Airport received a Silver Medallion Award from NCMPR, the second highest award in the College Video Program category. The episode airs on Government 11 (Comcast channel 11) and online at www.paducahky.gov.
The Medallion Awards is an annual award celebration honoring the marketing and communication efforts of community college marketing and public relations professionals. The Medallion Awards ceremony was part of the NCMPR District 2 conference held in October in Atlanta, Georgia. NCMPR District 2 is comprised of community colleges in 11 southeastern states, along with the Bahamas and Bermuda.
Your City at Work is a 30-minute program hosted and produced by Public Information Officer Pam Spencer with WKCTC Television Producer/Director Dan Sheppard as the director, photographer, and editor. Sheppard says, “Your City at Work is a fun show to produce since it allows us to go on adventures and give viewers a behind the scenes look at city departments and related organizations. I’m always amazed at how much I learn about the various projects that are spotlighted on the show.”
The City of Paducah and WKCTC’s television department work to produce several programs on Government 11 including Your City at Work, City Profile, Tot School, Break a Sweat, and Quality of Life. The television department also works with the City to broadcast the City Commission and Planning Commission meetings.
WKCTC’s Television Department also received a silver award in the College Promotional Video category. The college’s Public Relations Department received a gold award for the David Baldacci One Book, One Campus, One Community Read project promotional campaign and a bronze award for the WKCTC 2009-2010 Annual Report.
