The Department of Planning exists to support the land use planning and development process in the City of Paducah, to ensure the orderly use and reuse of land, to assist in maintaining and enhancing the economic and aesthetic viability and physical function of the City, and to enhance the quality of life in the City of Paducah. The department consists of highly skilled professionals who work to provide the highest quality of service possible in the areas of land use and development, long-range planning, housing, community development, and economic development.
The department is divided into three divisions: Planning and Zoning, Community Development, and Section 8 Rental Assistance. Planning & Zoning deals primarily with land use plan issues, long range planning activities, zoning, historic preservation, special use permits, subdivisions, and site plans for construction. The Community Development section deals primarily with housing, grants, neighborhood revitalization, and special projects. The Section 8 Department handles all aspects of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 8 program with rental assistance for those who qualify.
