Holiday Trash Collection Schedule-Christmas Tree Recycling
Since crews will be doubling up their collection routes and starting their shifts earlier than normal, if your trash collection schedule is affected by the holidays, it is recommended that trash containers are placed in their designated collection point the previous night. If you have a question about trash collection, contact the Engineering-Public Works Department at 444-8567.
- There will be NO residential trash collection on Friday, December 30. Friday's routes will be done on Thursday, December 29. There will be no brush collection on Monday, January 2.
To dispose of a live Christmas tree, the City of Paducah urges residents to recycle by taking the tree to the Compost Facility located at 1560 North 8th Street during regular business hours. The facility is open Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. It will be closed on December 23 through 26 and December 30 through January 2. Please remove all lights, garland, and ornaments before taking the tree to the Compost Facility. Residents also can dispose of trees by placing them next to their garbage.

Solid Waste Collection Fees
The Solid Waste Division of the City of Paducah is operated as a business enterprise. The cost of the trash collection service is paid for by the fees that are collected from residents and businesses. The fee is collected from the monthly water bill. Click Solid Waste Collection Fees for a detailed list of fees. For the past several years, the Engineering-Public Works Department has worked to make the service more efficient and to balance the Solid Waste Division's budget. The Solid Waste Division's budget for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 is $4.13 million.
Collection Fee History
- October 13, 2009: Commissioners approved a surcharge for the residents, businesses, and restaurants using the vertical trash compactors as part of the 2nd Street Alley project.
- June 10, 2008: Commissioners approved raising the solid waste collection fees 7.5% for residential and commercial collection. For residents with one garbage container, trash collection increased from $15.35 to $16.50 per month.
- July 1, 2007: Commissioners approved raising the fees 7.2%. The fee for residents with one garbage container was raised from $14.32 to $15.35 per month.
- November 2006: Commissioners approved raising the fees for a resident with one garbage from $13.85 to $14.32 per month. That was the first time the City's part of the solid waste fee had been changed since 1993. Fees were increased $0.50 in 2003 to pass through a mandate from the Kentucky legislature to pay a tipping fee to the State.
Residential Collection
To find out what day you are scheduled for pick-up please call Engineering-Public Works at 444-8567. We can also determine if you will need a roll-out container or if one already exists on the property. All waste must be contained in the City of Paducah issued container. The monthly charge for Residential Solid Waste Collection is $16.50 per month and is included on your water bill. This charge includes the weekly collection of your container and yard waste. On April 30, 2007, the City implemented a new residential refuse and yard waste collection program. This program changes the refuse collection day for some residents, changes the placement of the rollout containers, enforces excess refuse rules, and sets a dedicated day (Monday) for yard waste collection.
